The Lord Of The Rings trilogy is finally making it's way way to Blu Ray or is it? A major backlash is growing against the release of this trilogy on Blu-ray. Why? Because it's the original theatrical versions and not the extended directors cuts. The excuse? These are meant to tie us over until The Hobbit comes out and the we get to double dip for the long versions. yay! While I agree that this is ridiculous and will personally wait (after all my DVDs play fine on the PS3), I think there is A double standard going on. A few years ago when the original STAR WARS trilogy came out fans were up in arms that George Lucas only planned on releasing the upgraded versions and not the original theatrical versions. The lesson to movie studios: If your going to have two or more versions of A film make sure you release them all together. This was done with Close Encounters and Blade Runner and fans were happy. We all know why movie studios do this with DVD. Because dvd doesn't degrade like VHS used to the only way to get people to reinvest in A movie they already own is to release it with new special feature every few years. Unfortunately it's just part of the game. What do you think? Would buy a new copy of A movie on blu ray or dvd if you already own it? Keep in mind though that if your copy is more than 5 years old it is probably worth buying the newly remastered version.
